Drilling and Equipping Wells in Southern Amuda district
Project Background and Tender Process
Due to the severe water shortage in Al-Hasakah city, one of the concerned parties proposed the idea of a marine wells project to provide water for the city.
After conducting geological surveys and determining the drilling depths to reach seawater and ensure its suitability for drinking after treatment, the project idea was adopted, and a tender was launched to select the company to implement the project.
Our company, Hamza Abbas, scored the highest points for implementing this project based on several criteria: financial proposal, type of required excavator, other necessary equipment, and previous experiences.
Contract Signing
On 21/11/2023, the supporting party signed a contract with our company, Hamza Abbas, to drill, equip, and isolate a group of wells in southern Amuda district in order to obtain potable water to irrigate Al-Hasakah city.
I will provide a detailed explanation of the process we followed in the work:
First: Team Preparation
Preparing a team consisting of specialized engineers (civil, survey, laboratory) and experienced workers in the field of drilling wells and assistant workers.
Second: Project Review and Coordination
Our company’s engineering team reviewed the tender documents and technical specifications of the project and visited the drilling site to coordinate with the supervisory body appointed by the supporting party to determine the work procedures to be followed and to develop a timeline for implementing the work.
Third: Commencement of Work
On 18/2/2024, work began, where our company’s survey engineer coordinated with the project’s supporting party engineer to determine the coordinates of the first well.
Steps of well drilling:
1- Cleaning the well site, removing all obstacles, leveling the site with suitable machinery, and giving the site a slope for surface water drainage.
2- Implementing a reinforced concrete pour to protect the wellhead.
3- Commencing drilling operations.
4- Applying protection: Metal casing with a diameter of 18 inches and a thickness of 4 mm of helical type.
5- Applying insulation: Made of rust-free, smooth steel
6- Injecting sulfur-resistant cement grout between the well wall and the insulation using drilling rig compressors.
7- Final lining: Spirally wound and perforated steel plates with artistic patterns on the plunger.
8- Taking geological samples every 10 meters and whenever the layer changes, drying the sample, placing it in transparent nylon bags, numbering them according to their depths, and drawing the lithological column based on the samples taken.
Fourth: Submitting a file for each well containing:
1-Soil samples.
2-Detailed report on drilling operations (drilling diameter, protection, insulation, and final lining diameters and thicknesses, well lithological column).
3-Detailed report on pumping test results (flow rate, static level, dynamic level, test depth).
Elevations of Drilled and Perforated Plungers
We, Hamza Abbas Company, are proud to implement this major project for the first time in the region, recognizing its significant service importance to the region’s residents.
In doing so, we have enhanced the experience and capabilities of our company in implementing large-scale service projects.
